FHE Lessons 10 and 11

10

Widow’s Mite
(Coin Sack)

“And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.”

“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.”

“And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:”

“For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”

In this story, Jesus saw rich people put a lot of money and nice things into the treasury
(a place where donations to the church were placed). Jesus then saw a poor widow put two mites into a box, which was all that she had. She was afraid that somebody would see her because she couldn’t give much. Today, two mites would be equal to less than one penny. Jesus told his disciples that the widow gave more than all of the rich people. The rich people didn’t give everything they had, but enough to be seen by the other people to show off their riches. The widow, on the other hand, sacrificed everything she had because she was more concerned about giving.

With this, Jesus taught us that how much we give and whether people see us is not important. The important thing is how much we are willing to give up, not worrying about the rewards we’ll receive, in helping God’s work on this Earth.

St Mark 12:41-44

Jonah and The Whale
(Whale)

Jonah was a prophet that lived a long time ago. The Lord spoke to Jonah and told him to go to the city of Nineveh and tell the people to repent of their wickedness. At first, Jonah did not want to go so he tried to run away. He got on a ship that was going to another city called Tarshish. The Lord sent a great wind, and the boat was about to sink. The other men on the boat wondered why this was happening. They asked Jonah what they could do to make the waters calm, and he said to throw him into the sea. He knew the Lord had sent the storm because he had not obeyed him. So the men threw Jonah over the ship into the raging sea. The storm stopped. The Lord made a big whale swallow Jonah and he was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights. While inside of the whale, Jonah prayed and told the Lord he was sorry for running away. He promised he would be obedient. The Lord made the big whale put Jonah onto dry land. The Lord again told Jonah to go to Ninevah. Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to the city of Nineveh to preach to the people and tell them to repent. The people listened to Jonah. The people repented and the city was saved.

Here are the FHE packets 9 10 &11. I appreciate your patience with me, I am sorry that I have been slacking on the lessons of late... I will try to do better at getting them to you weekly, so I am going to try for Sunday nights instead of Mondays. It seems like we get our FHE done, kids in bed, then we are exhausted, and it completely leaves my mind until like Wednesday! So I am sorry if you are waiting anxiously for a paper to put in your binder each week. For those of you that aren't putting this book together as we go, I will kindly encourage you to do so...by an inch it's a cinch, by a mile it's a while. Be sure and look at your object lesson sheet and keep looking for good ideas to put in your box/bag. Keep it simple, and make precious family time count. My kids absolutely LOVE it when we use these simple lessons, and I know that yours will too! I am realizing as Thomas, Allie and Hinckley get older just how fast it goes by... people tell you this, but it sure is amazing to see their transformation from babies to BIG kids! Have a nice Day, (Teasha)
